Chandrayaan-3's Rover Completes Assignments, Safely Parked, Put To Sleep

The Chandrayaan-3 mission's rover Pragyan has completed its assignments, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) said today. The rover has been safely parked and put into sleep mode, ISRO said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

"Currently, the battery is fully charged. The solar panel is oriented to receive light at the next sunrise expected on September 22, 2023. The receiver is kept on," ISRO said.

"Hoping for a successful awakening for another set of assignments. Else, it will forever stay there as India's lunar ambassador," the space agency said.

Chandrayaan-3 Mission:
The Rover completed its assignments.

It is now safely parked and set into Sleep mode.
APXS and LIBS payloads are turned off.
Data from these payloads is transmitted to the Earth via the Lander.

Currently, the battery is fully charged.

The 26-kg, six-wheeled, solar-powered rover Pragyan is equipped to use its scientific instruments to record what the lunar soil and rocks are made of in the south polar region where Chandrayaan-3's lander Vikram touched down.

ISRO said APXS and LIBS payloads have been turned off and data from these payloads is transmitted to Earth via lander Vikram.

The APXS instrument is best suited for in situ analysis of the elemental composition of soil and rocks on the surface of planetary bodies having little atmosphere, such as the Moon. APXS observations have discovered the presence of interesting minor elements, including sulphur, apart from the major expected elements such as aluminium, silicon, calcium and iron.

The Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscope (LIBS) instrument on board the rover has already confirmed the presence of sulphur.

Zomato Launches AI Chatbot To Assist Customers In Placing Orders

Zomato, the food delivery platform and restaurant aggregator, has launched 'Foodie Buddy" a.k.a Zomato AI. The personalised chatbot will help customers choose what they want to order.

The platform released a blog and said that the bot is based on a multiple-agent framework, which equips Zomato AI with a variety of prompts for different tasks, essentially giving it multiple superpowers, ready to serve customers at any time.

The feature will be available to Zomato Gold customers exclusively and will be rolled out in stages.

"Craving a specific dish? Zomato AI will present you with a widget, listing all the restaurants serving your desired dish. Unsure about what to order? No problem! Zomato AI can suggest a list of popular dishes or restaurants, taking the guesswork out of your meal selection," the blog stated.

Adding, "One of the significant advancements we've made is the creation of numerous functions on Zomato that we are able to expose to our AI agents. This allows the AI agents to dynamically call for whatever data they need in order to best serve the customer query."

Zomato claims that the chatbot can handle a range of user queries.

The chatbot is equipped to answer difficult questions including "What should I eat when I'm hungover?" or "Can I eat something that is high protein and low carb?"

"Zomato AI is focused on helping you find the perfect dish to order when you're browsing Zomato with a rumbling stomach," the blog stated.

"Free To Live As They Wish": Delhi High Court Reunites Lesbian Couple

The Delhi High Court directed the family members and relatives of a 22-year-old lesbian not to threaten or put pressure on her or her partner. The court said that they are at liberty to live their lives according to their own style.

The court's order came after the woman submitted that she does not want to go back to her family and would like to stay with her partner.

The woman is an adult and cannot be forced to go to any place against her wishes, it said and made clear that if any of the parties violated its order, action would be taken against them.

"We hereby make it clear that the parents, relatives and their associates shall not extend any threat in whatsoever manner directly or indirectly or undue pressure upon the petitioner as well as the survivor. The petitioner and the survivor are at liberty to live their lives in the society as per their own style," a bench of justices Suresh Kumar Kait and Neena Bansal Krishna said.

The court was hearing a habeas corpus petition by the woman's partner who claimed that she was "missing" and was allegedly taken away by her family members as they were against their relationship.

On the last date of hearing, the woman was produced before the court which had then directed the police to take her to a shelter home and make necessary arrangements for her boarding and lodging there.

On August 29, the bench said, "We find that the woman is 22 years old and as per law, she cannot be forced to go to any place against her wishes". 

"We are of the considered opinion that the woman is at liberty to stay with whomsoever and wherever she wants," it had said.

The woman's father, who was also present in the court, assured the bench that all her documents and belongings would be handed over to her through a police official.

The bench also permitted the couple to live together at a place where the petitioner was staying and directed the Station House Officer (SHO) of the police station concerned to share the contact number of the woman sub-inspector and beat constable with them.

The high court had earlier directed the parents and maternal uncle of the woman to undergo counselling in order to prepare themselves to accept her "as per her wishes".

However, on August 29, the bench was informed that during the counselling session, the woman's uncle stated before the counsellor that she was brainwashed by her partner.

He said that he tried reading about homosexuality but the family found it difficult to accept it.

NASA Confirms Existence Of More Than 5,500 Exoplanets

In a major celestial milestone, NASA has confirmed the existence of a massive 5,500 planets beyond our own solar system. Not so long ago, we only knew a handful of planets that revolved around our Sun, but the quest to know the world beyond always continued.

NASA has now added a fresh batch of 6 planets outside our immediate solar family to its exoplanet archive, pushing the total beyond the 5,500 mark - after a 31-year journey of astronomical discoveries. The NASA Exoplanet Archive records discoveries that have been confirmed using multiple detection methods.

Scientists have discovered six new exoplanets - HD 36384 b, TOI-198 b, TOI-2095 b, TOI-2095 c, TOI-4860 b, and MWC 758 c - this has pushed the total number of confirmed exoplanets discovered to 5,502.

NASA said just about 31 years ago, in 1992, the first exoplanets were confirmed when scientists detected twin planets Poltergeist and Phobetor orbiting the pulsar PSR B1257+12. In March 2022, just last year, scientists celebrated the passing of 5,000 exoplanets discovered.

There are a number of both space and ground-based instruments and observatories that scientists have used to detect and study exoplanets.

NASA's Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) launched in 2018 and has identified thousands of exoplanet candidates and confirmed over 320 planets.

NASA's flagship space telescopes Spitzer, Hubble, and most recently the James Webb Space Telescope have also been used to discover and study exoplanets.

NASA has said that these exoplanets include small, rocky worlds like Earth and "super Earths" which are larger than our own. There are also gas giants several larger than Jupiter and "mini-Neptunes." Some of these planets orbit two stars at once and others stubbornly revolve around the collapsed remnants of dead stars.

Mississippi Hunter Kills Longest Alligator Weighing 364 Kg, Pics Go Viral

Mississippi hunters have killed the longest alligator ever found in the US State. According to the Mississippi Department of Wildfire, Fisheries and Parks (MDWFP), the record-breaking animal measured 14 feet and 3 inches long and weighed 364kg. The alligator was captured in the state's Yazoo River.

According to USA Today, the fight to catch the alligator lasted from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Hunter Donald Woods told the media outlet that the group had seen "a lot of 8-footers, 10-footers" but were chasing something bigger.

"We've been hunting these things a long time," he said.

The fisherman said that the had no idea how large the alligator was while trying to catch it.

"We knew he was wide," Mr Woods said. "His back was humungous. It was like we were following a Jon boat.

"We held onto him a while, until 10 or so. He broke my rod at that point.

"We hooked him eight or nine times and he kept breaking off. He would go down, sit and then take off. He kept going under logs. He knew what he was doing. The crazy thing is he stayed in that same spot," he added.

The hunters said that the fight was mentally exhausting. "He dictated everything we did. It was exhausting, but you're adrenaline is going so you don't notice it. It was more mentally exhausting than anything because he kept getting off."

After fighting throughout the night, the alligator finally started tiring. "We were down to pretty much down to those two rods and reels at that point."

The previous record for the "longest male alligator taken by a permitted hunter in Mississippi" belonged to a 14-foot, 0.75-inch-long (4.29 m) animal weighing 766.5 pounds (347.5 kg) that hunters captured in 2017 near the western city of Natchez.
